When to use HEIC to WEBP conversion
WebP is an image format used for web delivery. Converting HEIC to WebP lets you turn a camera photo into an image asset for a website. The output is a still image; it does not preserve Live Photo motion.
Choose WebP when your website or publishing system accepts it. You can combine conversion with resizing to avoid serving camera-resolution images where only a smaller image is needed. Check the receiving tool first; some upload forms still require JPG or PNG.
What happens to image quality?
This workflow uses lossy WebP encoding with adjustable quality, initially 85%. The fallback HEIC decoder may also use a JPEG intermediate, so this is not a lossless conversion. Compare the result visually; WebP is not guaranteed to be smaller than HEIC or JPG for every photo.
Browser and file limitations
HEIC support depends on the file, browser and device. The app tries native decoding and then downloads a fallback decoder if needed. Some HEIC variants cannot be decoded. Large photos may be slow on mobile; try one file first. WebP export additionally requires browser encoder support.
HEIC to JPG, PNG or WebP: which should you choose?
If you just want to share a photo or submit an upload form, start with JPG. Choose a different format when your editor or website needs it.

HEIC to WEBP: frequently asked questions
Practical answers about formats, file sizes, quality, privacy and failed conversions.
Is WebP always smaller than HEIC?
No. Different formats and encoders make different tradeoffs. Check the actual output size. Adjust quality, dimensions or a target size if needed, and compare the visible detail before using the image.
Can I upload WebP to any application form?
No. Follow the formats listed by the form. If it asks for JPG or PNG, choose that output instead, even if WebP would be smaller.
Why does WebP export fail in my browser?
The browser may not provide a WebP canvas encoder. Try an updated browser or choose JPG or PNG. A HEIC decoding error is a separate problem and can affect all three output formats.
Can I resize a HEIC photo while converting it to WebP?
Yes. Open more options and set a maximum width or height. Fit preserves proportions, and enlargement is disabled unless you enable it. Check the reported output dimensions after conversion.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is an image format used for many iPhone and iPad photos. It stores photos efficiently, but some upload forms and photo apps do not accept it. Converting creates a separate JPG, PNG or WebP file that you can use elsewhere.
Are HEIC and HEIF the same thing?
HEIF is the image container format; HEIC commonly identifies HEIF images encoded with HEVC. This tool accepts .heic and .heif files, but decoding depends on how the individual file was encoded.
How do I convert multiple HEIC photos at once?
Choose your output format, then select or drop several photos. Conversion starts automatically and successful results can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP. A failed file does not stop the others. Start with a small batch on phones with limited memory.
Are my photos uploaded during conversion?
No image upload is required. The image conversion and ZIP creation run on your device. The page and, when needed, its HEIC decoder are downloaded from the website. See the privacy page for information about other site services.
Will converting remove location and camera information?
The exported image does not retain the original EXIF fields such as GPS location, capture date or camera settings. Keep your original HEIC file if you need this information. Always check the result before replacing an archived original.
Can I convert a Live Photo or a burst?
This tool produces a still image, not a Live Photo video or an animation. For multi-image HEIC files, the fallback decoder uses the first returned image. Keep the original if you want to preserve motion or every frame.
Why will my HEIC photo not convert?
The file may be incomplete, damaged, encoded in an unsupported variant, or too large for the available device memory. Download the original again, try one image at a time and keep the page open. If the decoder cannot load, reconnect and retry. Changing the filename extension will not repair the image.
Do I need an account, payment or an app?
No account or installed converter app is required, and the exported images have no added watermark. Each selected file must be no larger than 75 MB. Large images and batches can still exceed your browser memory.
Keep your original. Download a new copy.
Selected photos are processed locally in your browser. The conversion does not upload image bytes to an image-processing server. Your original file is left untouched; you download a new copy.
